Berlin's Greatest Hits: Food, Beer & History Tour
4.9 / 5 · 84 traveler reviews
Dive into Berlin Mitte, the heart of the capital on a 2-hour journey and experience Berlin's greatest bites and sites. Two hours is all it takes to hit Berlin's greatest hits: the food, drink and history that define Mitte, without days of planning. You'll start with a fresh döner kebab paired with a Kindl-and-Pilsner beer pairing, then pause opposite the grand facades of Museum Island. From there, sip a Berliner Weisse cocktail in a bar that's poured drinks since the night before German reunification, wander a street art alley layered with Jewish heritage and postwar history, and settle the currywurst debate that's split Berliners for decades, East style or West. The walk closes with a donut, fresh and unhurried. Small group, capped at 12, so there's room for questions and conversations. The pace stays relaxed, giving you time to enjoy tastings and learn history.
Your experience
Stop 1
Over 400,000 Döner Kebabs are eaten every single day in Berlin. You get skip-the-line access to one of the city’s most popular spots to see why! Start your culinary journey with the famous döner kebab, paired with a half pour each of Berliner Kindl and Pilsner beer.
Stop 2
Stop at Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site holding five of Berlin's most important museums, viewed from the outside as your guide sets the scene for the history and flavors still to come on this walk through Mitte.
Stop 3
Next follows a tart Berliner Weisse beer cocktail in a bar opened in 1990, a day before reunification, as a meeting point for once-divided artists and Berliners. The beer itself, centuries old, was once nicknamed the Champagne of the North
Stop 4
Discover Berlin's edgiest hidden corners: a street art alley that came alive after the Wall fell, now packed with murals and moody bars. Underneath is Jewish heritage, WWII history and postwar revival, an authentic time capsule.
Stop 5
Settle in for Berlin's defining dish: Currywurst, sliced and doused in curry ketchup the way locals have enjoyed it for decades. East Berlin or West Berlin does it better? You'll get to taste both and decide for yourself.
Stop 6
End your tour at a donut shop tucked into a quiet corner of Mitte. Grab one made fresh to order and enjoy it on the spot, a sweet, easy way to end two hours of currywurst, beer and history through Berlin's most layered neighborhood.
