Old Town Toruń Walking Tour

Toruń is one of Poland’s most distinctive historic cities - and exploring it on foot is the best way to experience its many different sides. Wander through a beautifully preserved medieval Old Town, hear stories of Teutonic Knights and Hanseatic merchants, discover the birthplace of Copernicus, and take in views stretching towards the Vistula River. See the impressive Old Town Hall, one of the largest medieval brick town halls in Europe, and stop at the Nicolaus Copernicus Monument to learn more about the astronomer who changed our understanding of the universe. Please note that booking this tour you will be joining your general pay as you wish tour (tour in which it is up to the guest how to reward his or her guide). In this case the amount you pay covers the reservation fee and the guide's payment. If you wish to join a smaller, private tour let us know and we will organize it for you!
Your experience
Stop 1
Meet one of Toruń’s most famous residents at this monument dedicated to Nicolaus Copernicus, the astronomer who challenged the traditional view of the universe. The statue is a perfect place to discover Copernicus’s connection to Toruń and the beginning of our tour
Stop 2
Admire one of the most impressive Gothic town halls in Northern Europe, a symbol of Toruń’s wealth and importance as a medieval trading centre. Today, the building houses the District Museum, but its history stretches back to the days when merchants, city officials and political representatives gathered here to shape the city’s future.
Stop 3
Star Tenement - a baroque facade of one of the most famous houses in Toruń. This richly decorated façade of this beautiful Baroque townhouse was named after the golden star crowning its roof. Once home to wealthy townspeople, the building now houses an exhibition dedicated to Asian art and culture.
Stop 4
The local government institution, perfect example of a Dutch Neo-Renaissance style. An elegant building that reflects Toruń’s former status as a wealthy merchant city. Today, the building remains a cultural landmark on the Old Town Square, connecting the city’s commercial past with its modern cultural life.
Stop 5
Leaning Tower - one of Toruń’s most distinctive medieval landmarks: a defensive tower that leans noticeably away from the vertical. Built as part of the city’s fortifications, it has inspired legends about a Teutonic Knight’s punishment for breaking his vows.
Stop 6
The house of Nicolaus Copernicus at this historic Gothic street traditionally associated with his birthplace. The building now forms part of a museum dedicated to his life and achievements, exploring the world in which he grew up and the scientific ideas that changed our understanding of the universe.
Stop 7
The UNESCO-listed, magnificent Gothic cathedral, one of the city’s most important historic buildings. Dedicated to St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist, it is closely connected to Copernicus, who was baptised here. Inside, visitors can admire historic religious artworks and discover the cathedral’s centuries-old role in the life of the city.
Stop 8
the remains of the Teutonic Knights’ castle, one of the earliest strongholds established by the Order in the Chełmno region. The ruins offer a glimpse into the medieval power struggles that shaped Toruń and the surrounding lands.
