Cancun Snorkeling Tour: Swim with Turtles, Reef, Underwater Museum and Shipwreck
4.1 / 5 · 17 traveler reviews

Discover the magic of the Mexican Caribbean beneath Cancun's warm, turquoise waters. Swim above El Meco's colorful coral, explore the Cancun Underwater Museum (MUSA) with its collection of 500+ submerged sculptures, watch for sea turtles in their natural habitat and explore a shipwreck reclaimed by the Caribbean. Then comes something you probably never imagined finding beneath the sea—an underwater cenote, where freshwater emerges through the seabed in the Caribbean. In approximately two hours in the water, five remarkably different underwater experiences reveal just how much there is to discover beneath Cancun's famous waters. First-time snorkeler? Small boats, shallow waters and attentive guides keep the experience personal and comfortable. By the time you climb back aboard, you'll have snorkeled over coral, underwater art and a shipwreck, searched for sea turtles and even discovered a cenote beneath the Caribbean—all without leaving Cancun's coast.
Your experience
Stop 1
Begin your adventure with hotel pickup, if included, or arrive directly at Marina Punta Norte. After check-in, enjoy a short snorkeling briefing before heading out. Board your boat for the short ride to El Meco Reef, a beautiful shallow snorkeling area along the Great Mayan Reef. Slip into the warm Caribbean and snorkel above colorful coral as tropical fish swim around you. With depths of approximately 8–12 feet (2.5–3.5 meters) and generally mild currents, it's a great place to begin your underwater adventure. Next, discover the Cancun Underwater Museum (MUSA), where art becomes part of the marine world. Its collection of 500+ submerged sculptures was designed to evolve beneath the sea, creating new habitats as coral and marine life grow around them. Glide above giant submerged statues beneath the blue Caribbean as marine life transforms the artwork over time.
Stop 2
Your underwater adventure continues in a favorite area for sea turtle sightings, watching for turtles gliding through the Caribbean in their natural habitat. Rays and other marine life may also make an appearance. Next, explore a shipwreck reclaimed by the Caribbean, now covered in colorful coral and surrounded by schools of tropical fish. With white sand below and crystal-clear turquoise water all around, it feels like snorkeling through a natural Caribbean pool. For your final snorkeling experience, discover an underwater cenote, where freshwater emerges through the seabed. Explore this unusual natural formation and the marine life around it—a fascinating final glimpse into Cancun's underwater world. After experiencing five snorkeling areas—from coral reefs and underwater art to turtles, a shipwreck and an underwater cenote—enjoy the short boat ride back to Marina Punta Norte. Take a freshwater shower, then relax on your return ride to your hotel if transportation is included.
